Eric's Monthly Recommendation - Sheet Music

12/2007
This month I would like to recommend Karl Jenkins' Stabat Mater; A major new choral and orchestral work from the composer of Adiemus and The Armed Man. The 13th-century Latin sequence, set by many famous composers of the past, receives a fresh expression and intensity in Karl Jenkins's setting. By turns dramatic and reflective, Stabat Mater will be eagerly seized on by Jenkins fans everywhere. Suitable for choirs of intermediate standard upwards.

09/2007
This month I would like to recommend 'Eastern European Fiddle Tunes' by Pete Cooper. Following the success of 'Irish Fiddle Solos' and 'English Fiddle Tunes', Pete Cooper's new book contains a rich selection of tunes from many Eastern European countries. The material is wide-ranging in complexity, including very simple pieces as well as many more challenging tunes requiring intermediate to advanced technique. As with the other books in the Schott World Music series, a CD with all the pieces performed by Pete Cooper accompanies the collection

06/2007
This month I recommended A la dolce ombra de le belle frondi. Taken from his Fourth Book of Madrigals, this simple yet effective choral work displays the natural ability that composer Gavin Bryars has for choral writing. Especially suited to amateur choirs, this 10 minute work is highly flexible and has endless possibilities!

05/2007
This month I recommended Sing Britannia! - All you need for your Proms finale concert by Stephen Jackson The latest addition to Boosey & Hawkes innovative Concerts for Choirs series, Sing Britannia! contains all you could possibly need for your ideal Proms finale concert. The pieces have been selected, edited and many newly arranged by Stephen Jackson (Director of the BBC Symphony Chorus).

04/2007
This month I recommended Eulenburg's great new Audio+Score series. Containing the orchestral world's treasures from the baroque, classical and romantic repertoire, this new study-score series is the new way to hear, read and understand music and it is at an unbeatable price of only £5.99 per volume! Have a look in the Eulenburg Pocket Scores section.

02/2007
This month I recommended Octotunes for flexible string ensemble by Sheila Nelson
- The latest project from teacher, writer and performer Sheila Nelson, author of the award-winning Essential String Method. Ideal for individual or group teaching, this selection of short, fun pieces for flexible ensemble can be played by solo violin, violin duo, three violins and cello or even string quartet, all with an optional keyboard accompaniment part.

01/2007
This month I recommended The Tango Fiddler by Edward Huws Jones. Argentinean tango is the focus for the latest addition to the popular Fiddler series, which contains appealing arrangements of sophisticated numbers by tango legends Piazzolla, Villoldo, Arolas, Gardel and others.

12/2006
This month I recommended The Women’s Choirbook by Carsten Gerlitz. It offers a rich selection of familiar melodies from the widest variety of countries and styles. From swinging, soulful and groovy all the way to tuneful and sentimental, these new arrangements are delightfully modern and offer much flexibility in their use.

11/2006
This month I recommended To a Wild Rose by John Kember - Perfect romantic pieces arranged for string quartet. John Kember ensures that each instrument has a fair share of melodic interest in these attractive quartets.

10/2006
This month I recommended Chopin's Complete Etudes Op. 10 & Op. 25 - At the request of many customers, the Wiener Urtext Edition published the much sought-after two-volume edition of the Etudes by Frédéric Chopin, edited by Paul Badura-Skoda, in one volume. Thus, the edition is adjusted even more closely to the current teaching practice and becomes even more comfortable to use.
